(Vista, Calif. Apr. 24, 2009): Hollywood celebrities were recognized for their dedication to the environment this week in celebration of Earth Day 2009. Solatube International Inc. shared its love of daylight with eco-conscious celebs by donating energy-efficient Solatube Daylighting Systems and installation certificates to be included in green gift bags.
Solatube International’s line of energy and cost saving Tubular Daylighting Devices (TDDs), called Solatube Daylighting Systems, utilize advanced technology that captures natural light from an exterior dome on the rooftop, transfers it down a highly reflective tube and delivers it throughout interior spaces. Unlike traditional skylights, these innovative systems are able to bring daylight into just about any area of a home, even lower floor bathrooms and hallways. The dome also blocks out UVB and UVC radiation, and greater than 95% of UVA rays, so furniture won't fade like it will with a skylight window.
In 2008, Solatube Daylighting Systems helped turn off the lights in homes and buildings across the United States. Making the switch not only saved energy, but also reduced thousands of tons of carbon emissions during just one year. On Earth Day 2008 alone, Solatube International installed enough products to reduce over 17 tons of carbon emissions for the year.
Many homeowners and design professionals have learned the benefits of green home design, including daylighting, which is a major cost- and energy-saver. Continuing the trend of building environmental consciousness and sustainability, Solatube International hopes to encourage consumers to treat every day as if it is “Earth Day.” The company is constantly pushing the envelope in terms of daylighting design and technology and is seeking out new ways to take advantage of the sun’s energy.
“Earth Day is a great day to educate and remind ourselves about what is going on with our environment and what we are doing to protect it,” said Cynthia Sener, vice president of marketing at Solatube International. “Our company has always been involved with Earth Day activities and events, but more importantly, we take the principles of this movement and apply them all year long.”
The list of eco-friendly recipients included Jeremy Piven, Heather Graham, Justin Timberlake, Bill Maher, Adrian Grenier, Jake Gyllenhaal, Pink, Leonardo DiCaprio, Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow, Eva Longoria, Tobey Maguire, Drew Barrymore, Ellen DeGeneres, Kathy Griffin, Tyra Banks, Bette Midler, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Holly Robinson-Peete, Sting, Rosario Dawson, Tina Fey, Alicia Silverstone, Ricky Martin and Courteney Cox.
