(Vista, Calif., June 21, 2011): The appreciation of daylight goes back practically as far as the history of humankind.  The ancients relied on it to tell time, using sundials.  Great monuments such as the pyramids in Egypt and Stonehenge in England have significant ties to daylight.  The Druids created festivals to celebrate it, such as Summer Solstice.  

In modern times, we have gotten away from the joy and benefits of daylight by boxing ourselves in at home and work, often cutting ourselves off from this vital source of energy.  
National Daylight Appreciation Day (June 21, 2011) was created as a way to increase awareness about benefits and innovation uses of daylight in our everyday lives. It is also a day of education and awareness, leading toward a more energy-efficient planet.

Besides basking in the sun outdoors, we may also be grateful for the wonderful benefits of daylighting. Daylighting is the most cost-effective and beneficial way to light up any interior space without having to use electrical lighting, thus keeping the lights turned off during the day.

Daylighting systems (i.e. windows, skylights, Tubular Daylight Devices, etc.)  are not only eco-friendly, but they provide exceptional lighting and have even been proven to boost morale and productivity (among many other benefits).
