Homes
Founded
in 1985, Shea Homes San Diego is a division of the
J.F. Shea Company. Shea Homes – operating in
San Diego, Orange County/Los Angeles, northern California,
Arizona, Colorado and North Carolina – is the
tenth largest homebuilder in the United States and
the tenth largest privately owned building firm.
Even before the recent energy crisis in California,
Shea was committed to making energy efficiency a
top priority, and Solatube® Daylighting Systems
were a perfect product to help them meet their energy-efficient
goals.
Objective
Offer homeowners a high-quality natural lighting product that is inexpensive,
energy-efficient and adds to the beauty of the home.
Products Used
Brighten Up® Series -Solatube 160 DS
(10 in/250 mm Daylighting System)
Solution
Solatube Daylighting Systems
are offered as an option in new single-family homes
and also offered as a standard in one home development
in San Diego by Shea Homes. Shea decided to offer
Solatube products as a standard feature in the upstairs,
interior bathroom of one of its models before the
energy crisis hit full swing in 2001. This just proves
Shea’s dedication to proactive energy-efficient
procedures. Solatube Daylighting Systems are typically
installed in bathrooms, laundry rooms, and interior
hallways, although the versatility of the product
allows it to be installed almost anywhere the homeowner
desires extra light. Homeowners are not only impressed
by the energy efficiency aspect of daylighting, but
also by the aesthetic appeal of walking into a bright
room flooded with natural light.
Testimonial
“We used Solatube in
an interior bath where we were unable to place a
window. This allowed us to provide the customer with
a bright bathroom. Solatube offered us an excellent
energy-efficient alternative. As we develop new house
plans, we will investigate opportunities to use Solatube
again, considering the product is both efficient
and cost effective.”
